THE KAIWARRA MURDER. Wellington, Jnue 19.

The inquiry into the Kaiwarra murder continued all yesterday afternoon. Detective Benjamin, chief detective in Wellington, deposed to having visited the accused's house with Inspector Thomson and Detective Campbell. A gun was found, and it bore the appearance of being recently discharged. Accused said to witness, "I fired the gun off at some quail a few days ago/"' A chest of drawers in the bedroom was examined. I wish I had better clothes to go in." On the night of the arrest witness and Campbell and Constables Carroll and Healey, visited Chemis's house, and in the trousers pocket Carroll tound a piece of paper. At five p.m. Mr Bell said he would be unable to examine all the witnesses, and suggested an adjournment till Friday. ' Mr Bunny, for the accused, objected, as the time for opening the criminal sessions of the Supreme Court was approaching, and it was'nots fair that he should not have time to complete the defence. Ultimately* His Worship granted a remand till Friday, on which day ifc is understood the prosecution close their case.
