POETRY. THE QUESTION.
(3t. Luke, chapter 24, verse 41). Ho !, shepherds of the flopks of Chrißt, What shall your answer be? m ' * * If your Master conies in His might and power And He should ask. of ye— - " Have ye any meat for my little ones Who hunger* and pine and die? Have ye nought but faith to feed my lambs, And creeds to hush their sigh? . > Have ye any meat for the widow Starving in want and dread? 0, shepherds of Mine ! do ye answer Yea, Then why are My poor ones dead?" Have ye any meat? Is the answer " No?" Then will not the Master frown To see.His poor half-starred and cold, , And ye with robe and crown? Have ye any meat for the worker ' Toiling in human sweat? O, leaders of men, dare ye answer nay, When your souls with blood are wet? O, leaders of men, O, shepherds of God, What shall the answer be, When the still, small voice of the angered Lord iJcmands their souls from ye? Shall the dead arise in their workhouse shrouds, The starved and murdered men Tho Master left to your tender care, O ! how will ye answer then?
