EXTRAORDINARY AFFAIR. BASELESS CHARGE AGAINST A BROTHER. Thames, June 11.
T>rß case of the young man jf-tobert- Smith, who was recently arrested in' Auckland on" the information ot his brother, Thomas Smith, on a charge of the larceny of a brooch from complainant's residence at the Thames, came before the R.M. to-day. Tho evidence showed that at the request ot informant accused had-tsken'tho brooch and got a local jeweller to advance 15b upon it, this sum being duly given by accused to informant, who waited a short distance away. The tJ.M. dismissed the accused and said he left the dock without the slightest stain upon 1113 character j The case was one of the most extraordinary he had over heard in his life, and accused had been abominably and basely treated.
