ACTION AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT. Wellington, June 13.

Ax important action was begun in the Supreme Court yesterday, viz., the Manawabu Railway Company v. Queen. The Company claim parb of their contract with the Government was that any block or portion of block of land in the vicinity of the line acquired by the Crown within a period of 5 years, from March, 1882, should bo set aside as an endowment of the Company, provided the value should not exceed £29,805, bub the Government sold by auction a portion of Horowhenua block comprising 3,988 acres. Tho Company seek to be put in possession, to prosecute its complaint in Court and take such proceedings as are necessary. The contention ot the Crown is thab the Horowhenua block was nob acquired till June 19th, 1887, and consequently was not within the five years' limit.
