B ard, had the power to giant a license within a mile of a Borough. Com Lipsey : Cut saiely Mr Mackie doea not want to slaughter cattle in the heart of the township. Com Ebert : It appears so. The application is for the promises known as the old slaughter house. Mr Mackie asked permission to address the Board, and said Com Kbert was putting a wrong construction on the matter, as Te Aroha was not a Borough, and h* could see no reason why his application should not be granted. Com Ebert : It i=t plainly shown in the JSlanghtpr House Act, Mr M'ickie, that we have not the power to grant the application, as it i<* inside the Borough. Mr Mackie • But this is not a Borrtugh Com Ebert replied that in this matter the Town Board had the same powers as a Borough Council would have Com Lipsey : It is no use, Mr Mackie, T shall strongly object to the granting of the application. Com Ileathcote : We have the same powers as a Borough, and cannot therefore grant a license. Com Ebert moved that the application be not granted. Com L'psey : I shall second the motion as I consider it would be a nuisance, Mr Mackie : It was a nuisance while in the bonds of others, but has it ever been a nuisance since it has been under my control ? lam willing to be governed by iho law. The license would only be granted for twblve months, and if at the end of that term the requirements of the Act have not been complied will), or if it could be then shown that the place was in any way a nuisance, I shall be quite will ing to forfeit the license.
