GREAT SAMOAN LAND CASE. Sydney, May 8.
The German s.s. Lubeck arrived to-day from Samoa. The action, Manaerna and Frank Cornwall v. William McArchur and Co., of New Zealand, was concluded at Apia in the High Commissioner's Court), and judgment was given for the plaintiffs for the value of the produce of plantations for £41,276 and costs. The trial lasted 33 days, and 70 witnesses were examined. Mr W. J. Napier, barrister, of New Zealand, appeared for the plaintiffs (assisted by Mr R. Skeen, also of New Zealand, who appeared to watch the interests of Captain Sinclair, a member of the Samoan Land Syndicate), and Messrs J. l\ Campbell (New Zealand) and R. H. Carruthers and Wiii. Cooper (Samoa) for defendants. Security is required by the Court before defendants are to be allowed to appeal. We learn the judgment created intense excitement at Apia. Mr Napier is a passenger by the Lubeck.
