ANOTHER TRAGEDY. MINER MURDERED IN OTAGO. HIS MATE ARRESTED.
Duueimn, June 3. The body of James Bradford, a miner at Woitelmna, who has been missing since May 20th, was found last night a shorl distance from his place. lie has evidently been murdered. His mate, Robert Waddol, was arrested on suspicion this mornin°" Very few paibiculais arc yet to hand as to the occurrence. It appears that the deceased and the accused worked together in a claim a milo from anyone elso, and it is known they did not agree. Bradford had been missed sinco the 20th nit. A search party was out yestoiday looking for him, and his body was found after dark last' night in a gully Q.boufc a chain, from where' he was working. There are marks of a violent blow on the sido of the head. The body was partly concealed Avith fern. Waddel has been working at the claim since his mato has been missing,, but took no active steps lo search for him. Mr Revoll opened the inquiry this afternoon, but after identification of tho body, an adjournment was made. Dr. Withers is conducting the pofl mortem examination. The " Daily Times" special reporter, who visited Waitehuna, sends the following particulars: — "On arriving at Waitehuna, I found a great deal of excitement prevailing regarding the suspected murder. Inspector Weldon and (Jhief Detective Henderson were passengers by the same train, and talked over the investigation of the matter. At present but little can be learnt. The police arc imusually reticent, and nothing but the barest outline of facts can be obtained from them. Inspector Weldon was very courteous and cautious, and was kind enough to be present during my interview with the local police tor the purpose of preventing me learning too much from them. The man who is supposed to have ! been murdered is a miner named James Bradford, a widower, who has. been residing in the district for the past 15 yoars, but does not appear to have been inti lnaCely known by many people. Bradford has been missing since tho 20bh of last month. On the 17th and 18t.h he was working at) his claim with his partner, Robert Waddel, who was this morning arrested upon a charge of wilful murder. Both Bradford and Waddel lived in huts on the Waitehuna Elab, close to the railway station. Bradford lived by himself, and W'addel, who was married, lived near to Bradford. They were partners in a c'aim ab Cogghills Hill. When last seen alive Bradford was going out o£ the town-
