RETIRED OFFICERS IN COLONIAL SERVICE. Adelaide, May 23.
The Premier has received a letter from Sir Harry Atkinson, sympathising with this colony in its contention that retired officers employed by the colonies should not be punished by the forfeiture of their retired pay.
ENGLISH COMMERCIAL. London, May 22. The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,616,000 quarters, and for the Continent 360,000 quarters. 'ihe quantity of American wheat visible is 22,375,000 bushels. The English wheat market shows a general decline, the Continental is dull, and the American depressed. Tin plates, second quality, charcoal, average 17s; best coke, 14s 6d.
