Execution at Napier. Napier, May 13.

Haika tk Pkre wa*executed forbhemurder of the Pook family this morning. He met his fate without emotion. At his trial at Gisborne Pere confessed to the murder, bu^ last "Friday nighb made a statement to Captain Preece, R.M., to the effect thab he and his brother entered Pook's store for the purpose of robbery, bub being detected hi s brother struck Pook and in facl committed all the murders, while Te Haira looked on in bewildered astonishment. He stated to others that it was arranged amongst hi? family that he being guilbless should be arrested and would be got off, his brother paying for the laywer with the proceeds of the robbery. There is no communicabion with the sbeamers owing bo the storm, and the hangman was carried on. A prisoner serving a short sentence was executioner, for which the rest of his sentence was remitted.

AN UNFORESEEN DIFFICULTY, The Charitable Aid Board has applied to the Sheriff as to when the hangman is to be released, as the Board is supporting his wife and child, for the desertion of whom the hangman was sent to gaol for 4 months. It is understood he is to be discharged tomorrow, and his passage paid elsewhere. On his release the wife will prosecute again. Two months of the hangman's sentence had been served.
