THE WOMEN'S HOME AT PARNELL. AN APPEAL FOR HELP.

The excellent work that is being carried on at the Women's Home, in Farnell, founded by Mrs Cowie, is in urgent need of help. The institution receives no aid from the Government, and is entirely supported by voluntary contributions and the work of the inmates. The cause is one that strongly commends itself to the sympathy of the benevolent ; we have great pleasure, therefore, in giving publicity to the following appeal :—: — Sir, - There are twelve inmates besides six infants in the Women's Home at the present time, and several of them are almost destitute of clothing. It would be a great help if some kind people in Auckland would give a roll of flannel, a piece of unbleached or of white calico, a piece of stout holland for aprons, of print or of winsey for gowns, and any other useful thing that it might suit them to bestow. I do not like to ask gifts from the warehouses or other houses of business, as times are bad with many of them. So I venture to make the neei known through you, feeling sure that I shall not appeal in vain to the many kind hearts and ready hands in Auckland". Gifts of old clothing and of boots and shoes and stockings would also be very welcome. Our matron is very clever in cutting out and contriving. Any gifts that may be sent to me shall be duly acknowledged. — I am, etc., Eliza J. Cowie, Superintendent of the Women's Home. Bishopscourt.

Last week three females residing at the house of Mr Shinnock, near Albany, New South Walop, were stuck up by a man armed with a revolver, and robbed of £2,000. It appears that a man drove up to the house, and after presenting a revolver at a female servant, demanded admission to the house. He then bailed two other women up in a room, and took £2,000 from a bag. Constables from Narrandarra and Coolamon police stations were quickly despatched to search for the robber, and make further inquiries. The total amount of the money abstracted from the house was £2,000 in gold, 17s in silver, and a farthing. The property stolen was placed in a blackmorocco bag.
