ERADICATING PHYLLOXERA.
At a meeting of the Albury Fruit and Vine Growers' Association on the 15th March, Mr T. Curley, of Hullside Vineyard, was in the chair. A letter was read from the Hon. George Day expressing serious doubt as fco the efficacy of the method adopted by the Vine Diseases Board for eradicating phylloxera, and endorsing an extract from a Sydney journal to the effect that vines supposed to have been exterminated some time ago were now breaking out into luxuriant growth. Mr James Day, of Thurgoona, stiongly criticised the board. To their want of experience and peculiar ideas on the subject of compensation in offering one man £100 per acre and another £25, was the present unsatisfactory state of affairs mainly attributable. He considered it advisable to make a strong appeal to the Government to bring about a radical change, and, failing success, they must petition Parliament. He moved, "That in the opinion of this association, the gentlemen now entrusted with the task of destroying vines a fleeted with phylloxera should be relieved of the responsibility, on the ground that their efforts have been unattended with any satisfactory result in the direction of carrying out the intention of the Vine Disease Act." Mr T. Curley seconded the motion. Mr Ferguson, of Bungowannah, considered the resolution went a little too far, in view of the letter received from the 1 board stating that the work was proceeding well, and that the best results were, anticipated. The motion was carried. Thoioljowing resolution was also carried, "That a letter be addressed to the Colonial Secretaiy forcibly protecting against the failure of the Government to adopt drastic measures for the eradication of, phylloxera." The meoti ing then closed.— Sydney Mail,
