ROAD BOARD ELECTION BUNGLE.
I Hamilton, May 4. At a meeting of the Kirikiriroa Road Board to-day, fche clerk reported that he had nob received the new valuation roll from the ProDerty Tax Commissioner, and also that the Government auditor had failed to put in an appearance to audit the annual accounts, which should be done according to law before the first week in May. Tho consequence was that no annual meeting could bs held. Fortunately, no contest for the seats on the Road Board had taken place, or the election could not legally have been held. TJhe fact is, that owing to dilatoriness on the part of the Government in both Property Tax and Audit Departments, numerous irregularities are bound to occur, and the, chances are that half the elections for the Road Boards will be illegal.
TiMARir, May 4. Outt of about fifty school districts seven failed to elect cotnai^tees, six being from error in supposing that people cannot be elected in their absence, and one being elected on the wrong day. The Education Board resolved to represent to the Department its opinion that papers for scholarship examinations ehould be prepared by the Department to ensure a uniformity of standards.
