POETRY. A BREATH OF THE SEA. (FROM THE ' PARTHENON.')

Cloudless sky, and an azure f ea, Thoughts that the ocean bungs to me Murmuring waves on a foreign strand, Ripples sott on the golden sand. Odours sweet on the languid breeze. Brilliant blossoms and state y trees ; S witt- winged birds o'er the sparkling foam. White- winged ships on their journey homo, Gloiious, radiant sea. Silver sheen on a waveloss sea, Scenes that the ocean paints for me ; Soft-cj'ed stars on the azure pale ; Seen through the fleecy cloudley veil. Crescent moon with a disc of haze, Shimm'ring gleams in her gentle rays ; Idle barks on the ocean's breast, Voiceless, motionless, still, at rest. Tranquil, beautiful sea. Lund flash o'er a storm-tossed sea, Terrors the ocean shows for me ; Frantic forms on a sinking deck. Clinging hard to a drifting wreck. Yawning depths for a ruthless grave, None to pity and none to save ; Wild despair in the last dread cry, Borne on the blast as it hurries by. Merciless, cruel sea ! Fitful gleams on a troubled sea, Visions the ocean brings to me ; Sullen sky with an angry west, Moaning waters that cannot rent. Scattered wrecks on the ocean foam. Broken hearts, and lonely home ; Folded hands on a dead, cold breast, Veiled eyes closed in their last, long rest. This is thy work, oh, Sea. Sunset glow o'er a molten sea, Thoughts that the oueun speaks to me; Life in the city, bright and fair, With the redeemed who've entered there, Tears all wiped from the joyful eyes. Rest and gladness beyond the skies ; Lasting peace for the wearied soul, Where no dividing waves shall roll, 'For there shall be no more sea.' Akakana.
