At a meeeting of shareholders of the Union Gold Mining Company, held at Mr J, F. Clarkes office, Insurance Buildings, Auckland, on Tuesday last, Mr James Uussell presided, and there were ten shareholder piesent. The resolutions passed at th» meeting held on the sth Apri', re winding up the company, were confirmed, and, the company is now in liquidation. A foot race came off at Paei'oa on Wednesday last. The distance was one mile on the flat, the stake jCIO a side, between Wm, Hyde, TeAioha; and J. Casn, Paeroa, formerly of Thames. The race was run in Mr Cassells paddock, about 3.30 pin., quite a crowd aesemblin<r to witness thn event. Case went away with the lead, which he maintained for about half the distance, when Hyde, who apparently w.is quite content to occupy second pkee so far, drew up to his opponent, quickly passed him, and lapidly increasing the distance between them won with the greatest ease.
