A despatch of March 2'2nd says that, taking the piico of copper at £50 per ton, it is calculated the syndicate will lose £6,000,000. The Societe dcs Metanx shaveholders arc represented as being cleared out. Manager Secretan describes himself as emerging from his speculations naked as a worm. His collection of pictures will either be sold to Baron Hirsch or morogaged to the Bank of France. The French Government is acting cautiously regarding the reconstruction of Comptoir d'Escompte, which is nicknamed by Parisians "La Panama dcs Riches." The Bank, with an original paid-up capital in reserve, together with £4,000,000, is regarded as lost. Yacht Designer Watson says a challenge for the American Cup has been mailed to the New York Yacht Club by Lord Dunraven. The yacht for the race is now being built at Southampton, and is named the Valkyiie. The American Baseball Club returned to New York, April 6th, and give great praise to the Australians. Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of " Uncle Tom," has lost her reason.
