MR J. DILLON IN TASMANIA
Mr John Dillon gave an address at the Town Hall. Mr Fitzgerald, M.H.A., a member of the Ministry without a portfolio, was in the chair. An address was presented to Mr Dillon from the country districts, which welcomed him as the champion of Irish nationalism. Mr Dillon said that the Australians had an interest in the Irish question, but now tho conspiracy had collapsed the papers said there was no subject for discussion. The Irish people, ho said, only claimed less than the colonies possessed. They had a right to administer their own affairs. He went on to trace all the evils in Ireland to the administration of the law by persons who did not understand the country. He dwolb on the evictions in Ireland, and said that the law if properly administered would have handed over bho land to the people, as they had made impiovements ot more value than the fee simple, but the law was burked. The whole point of Mr Dillons address was that every evil came from the Unionists. lie finished with an appeal to the Irish in the colonies for money in aid of the cause, but declared that he did not come on a begging mission, a& Irishmen would give freely for the benefit ot the cause. The hall was crowded, many having come from tho country, and many desiring merely to hear Mr Dillon speak.
