Visit of the Hon E. Mitchelson, Mr Commissioner Me Kerrow, and Party to Te Aroha.
The Hon E. Mitchelson, Minister of Public Works ; Mr J. McKerrow, Chief Commissioner of Railways ; accompanied by Mr Hudson, District Tiaffic Manager oE Railways ; Mr Hales, District Engineer ; Mr Blair, Assistant Engineer ; Mr McKenzie, M.11.R. for Clutha ; Colonel Fraser, M,H.R. for Thames ; Mr L, Bagnall/Thames County Chairman; and Mr Bate, Private Secietary to Hon Mr Mitchelson, arrived at Te Aroha from Paeroa last evening about half past six anil put up at the Club Hotel. The party left Thames yesterday morning at nine o'clock (bting accompanied as far as Paeroa by Messrs F. C. Dean, Town Clerk, A. Aitkin, County Engineer, and Cr Steadman) and inspected the Thames Aroha railway line at various points on their way up. They first called at Kopu, and then went down to the wharf. From Matatoke station they travelled along the line a considerable distance, and inspected the land adjacent thereto. At Puriri they also went along the line for some distance, and also inspected the outfall drains, which it is asserted require enlarging. At Komata Mr Mitchelson went down to the Native Pah to see the chief, Tukukino, but lie was not at home. Paeroa 'was reached about 2,30 p.m., and Messrs Nicholls, Chairman Ohinemuri County Council, accompanied by Crs Moore and Robson, as a deputation on behalf of the County Council, waited upon Hon Mr Mitchelson at Mooie's Hotel, and stiongly advocated the early completion of the railway line to Te Aroha ; urging, however, that the bridge over the Ohinemuri river, should be erected at no great distance from the existing traffic bridge, so that the river steamer traffic be not ■interfered with, Messrs Warden Northcroft, McCosh Clarke, J. Howell, and others bad interviews with the Hon Mr Mitchelson during last evening. Mr Mitchelson also arranged to receive a deputation representing the Te Aroha Town Board, at 8 p.m , but after waiting for three quarters of an hour, and no deputation showing up, very kindly said he would receive the deputation to-day instead.
