EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE.

The extent oi the dauiago to the car^o of Hax had nee been ascertained uj) to n late hour this afternoon. The hold oi the vessel, being of hon, was uninjured, the damans being confined to the cargo ot flax. The flax was shipped by a Wellington firm, and includedsome3ootons. Thegieater pait of this has already been unloaded, and some of the bales are considerably injiued by lire. No other cargo beside the ilax was injured either by lire or water. We havo made inquiry as to insurances, but have been unable to obtain them here. The lull extent of the damage- cannot be ascertained until a late hour this evening, until a good deal more ot the ilax has been removed.
