Co. : The scarcity ol' water for motive power is still the groat drawback iv connection with this Company ; the power available being 1 only sutlicient to drive 20 head of stampers. The water jacket is expected to anive in the course of a few day?, and the smelt m- will probably be completed within a fortnight. The erection of the new twenty head of stampers will be proceeded with at once, These new stampers will be constructed on a greatly improved piineiple, work at a lar greater speed, an 1 t-e capable of reducing a far larger quantity of quartz per d»y, than is possible with the same number of the ol 1 ?tampeis, The sampling woiks will also be now gone on with, and completed ;is soon as possible. These works will include a good deal of machinery of one kind and another. Mr Howeli, who together with Messrs W. Jamieson, ami McCosh Clarke (directors), last week inspected the line of country between Waiorongomai and Tui, by travelling ovt r the ground on foot, was well pleased with what he saw, and was very favourably impressed wit'i theolass of country inspected, and with the appearance of tho Champion mines. Mr W. Jamieson (director), returned to Melbourne by last Tuesdays steamer .from Auckland.
