SOUTHERN GOLDFIELDS.
Dunedin, April 17. The Gallanb Tipperary mine has struck splendid stone in the intermediate level. No better has been seen since the palmiest days. Quartz reefing is proceeding on the Shotover dredge on the big beach. The Shotover is reported to have struck excellent wash dirt containing highly payable gold. Blenheim, April 17. The Perseverance claim at Waikakahi Flat came on good gold. This is the first claim on the flat that has had luck. All the workers were on the point of abandoning the claims in disgust. ,The prospects are now bright. Heekton, April 17.
News is wired from Lyell that the Alpine mine has struck a reef in No. 7 level. It has taken three years to drive the tunnel. After meeting with innumerable difficulties the Company by their perseverance and pluck are to be congratulated, and it is the general wish that it may prove more successful than No. 6 level.
