o>r Wednesday evening last. the c ii«iuil monthly meeting of the Waiorotigrniiii Dmhil of-Jlopo was hold. ,Mr John Sonmrvillp prp«idpd. Mr W. H. 'Smith,Auckland, and Mr Whithurn, Morrinsville, wprp present. Thp attendance was fairly good, and all present seamed to "'enjoy tlfe meeting very nine!). 1 "., The proceedings were opened in the manner usual on such occasions. "Ouring the course of the evening Mr Smith delivered a most interesting' ad- ' dress, in the course of which he referred to thp crund work being parried- on in Auckland in connection with the Helping I-Tnml Mission, Frecmnn^ B»y ;-and to thp vt»ry enconrat»in<j rppults vvliich liid iittende 1 the pffurt* of those enafatrfd in this tjood work. Mr Whithurn sung, "Britonsnovpr shall be Slaves," the audience joinin r in the choru-s. The Chairman delivered a stirring oddres^ on the evils of intemperance, and dwelt on the degradation, destitution and unhappy end of those who became the victims of strong drink. The following programme was very creditably carried out : Reading. Your young Man, Mr Novell ; recitation, B<rnpy Murphy's Bothprnient, MiasNorih Hpftley (splendidly rendered) ; recitation, Jim and the Jack Ass, Mns'er Walter Curnow ; dialogue by six girls. Temperance Girls' ; recitation, Mi«s Lizzie Roberts ; song, The Bridge, Miss Ba^kett ("sung with much taste and deservedly applauded) ; chorus, England's a Mighty Placp, by six girls ; recitation, The Violet, Mhs iNellie Curnow ; reading. Melting Moment's. Mr Lovell ; recitation, Hodge and the Vicar, Miss Ethel Goldsworthy (pxcellently given). A selection from Ilovle's Songs and Solo<? were sung during the evening It is intended to have another meeting in a fortnight's time, to include a magic lanteni entertainment. — Correspondent.
