SCAB IN SHEEP.

Wellington, April 11. The sheep inspectors who have beon in conference here report to the Minister of Lands that it is undesirable to report or declare in any way that the colony is free from scab until two years from the date of the last clean cevtincale, or the desti uction of the last infected sheep. They do so for the following reasons : — (1) The difficulty of eradicting scab or of proving its eradiation, owing to the rugged and inaccessable nature of the country for until such time shall have lapsed it is impossible such is free from infection. (1) That the colony has already been declared clean from the post, and that a clean certificate has been issued for the last inspected flock, while at the same time it was well-known that it was auspicious that sheep still remained on a large area of inaccessible country, and it is submitted that a delay of two years i 3 necessary so that the next declaration of the freedom of the colony from scab may be received with confidence. The conference is still sitting.
