SPLIT IN THE CABINET. MR FISHER'S RESIGNATION.
Wellington, April 10» Mr George Fisher, Minister of Education and Customs, placed his resignation in the hands of the Premier at half-past nine 'clock last night.
Mr Fisher maintains that he is compelled to retire upon grounds other than thoso which could attach to any conduct of his as a Cabinet Minister ; that as 'a member of the Executive Government he has inrariably acted upon the recommendations of the permanent officers of his department, with the advice of the law officers; that the reason alleged for asking him to resign proceeds upon a false issue, and if recognised will establish a precedent dangerous in the future. The formal resignation is accompanied with a statement in detail to be forwarded to the Governor of all that has taken place in the Cabinet upon the various questions that came before it. The document will not be made public until Parliament meets. The Cabinet crisis is now ab an end. . „Mr Fisher will address his constituents some evening this wv ' .
