LORD ONSLOW. ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE RECEPTION.
Auckland, April 8. Tup Hox. Mn Mitcul-lson has been communicated with by wire to ascertain whether the whole ot the Auckland volunteers could not be present on the arrival and ieceptionofLordOnslowonthe22ndinst. and he has wired back in reply, that the Government will provide railway conveyances to bring 1 the whole of the volunteers into town irom the encampment on Easter Sunday, so that the whole responsibility of a proper guaid of honour rests on the shoulders of Lieut. -Col. Shepherd, fche officer commanding the district. Lieut. -Col. Shepherd was, unfortunately, out ot town to-day, so that he could not be communicated with on the subject, but the way having been cleared by the approval of the Government, it can be taken as a foregone conclusion that the whole of the volunteers will be ordered to hold themselves in readiness to receive His Lordship. The date of Lord Onslow's arrival is now almost absolutely fixed. At 11 o'clock today His Worship the Mayor received a cablegram from Cook's Tourist Agency informing him that Lord Onslow and party would arrive here on the Monday, the 22nd, or Sunday, the 21st instant, and that he would go South by the Hinemoa. It is therefore certain that His Lordship intends to come by the outword 'Frisco mail steamer due to arrive I here about Sunday evening, 2l&t in&t., and the reception will take placeaboutlO o'clock on the Monday morning following. A suite of rooms ior Lord Onslow has been engaged at the Grand Hotel, Princes-street. ' Lord Onslow is to be invited to bo present at the Auckland Racing Club's meeting on the 22nd instant, and will probably be entertained <at luncheon by the Club.
Wej,iaxgton, April 8. In consequence of the painting at Go" vernment House, Lord Onslow will defer his arrival in Wellington till after April 28th, passing- the intervening time in Auckland. The children and servants will arrive on that date instead ot on the 16th.
The railway returns for the four weeks endinsr March 2nd show a larger percentage of revenue from the Worth than from the Middle Island. The total receipts were £78,344 4s sd, and the expenditure £49,586 88 Id, and the percentage of revenue was 65 07. The receipts for the North Island were £25,455 18s 9d, and the expenditure £16,301 15s lOd, with a percentage of revenue of 68-30. The Middle Island receipts were £52,888 5s Bd, and the expenditure £33,284 12s 3d, with the percentage of revenue of 63*59. In the Auckland district the i-eceipts amounted to £7,659 19s 6d, and the expenditure £5,763 0s 3d, with a percentage of revenue of 6779.
