Hooper, Mount Albert, There was a very large attendance, smart competition, and first-class prices were obtained. On Wednesday one ot piano, furniture, etc., at the mart. The weather was, very unfavourable, but few present, and very little business done. On Thursday, one of a bankrupt stock of tobacconist. There was a largo attendance, first-class competition, and high prices were realised. On Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday sales of poultry, produce, fruit, etc., at the mart. The whole ■were well attended, and prices very satisfactory. 'Mr Alex. Aitken's Market Rei-okt for the week ending April 6.— A large amount of business has been done in all lines. Four sales of produce, poultry, and fruit have been held as lollows :— On Tucbday, produce and fruit ; on Wednesday, furniture and effects ; on Thursday, Island fmit, ex Richmond ; and on Friday, the usual market sale. The whole have been largely attended, with spirited competition lor all offered. Potatoes have been in fair supply : a good demand exists , values unchanged. Onions are scarce and have fetched high prices. Vegetable have been more plentiful ; all sold fairly well. Gi am quiet, J?resh butt-.-r in tairly supply; good values obtained. Eggs : Increased supplies. Cneese in fair demand, but quality must be good to command attention. Poultry has been in lanre supply ; prices were somewhat beti or. Pigs : Small supply ; none very large ; \ alues unchanged. In iruit rhe supDlies still continue large. The demand has been somewhat better, but little alteration in value. ADples sold at a higher average on Friday than they have for some weeks. Pears : Good di-ssert kinds have sold well, but small and inferior are low. Grapes have sold at greatly advanced values. Plums are stilllow. Peaches: 'lne bulk of tee supply has been of choice quality, and high values obtained. Leirous still selling at good values. Quinces : A fair supply: good prices obtained. The shipment of bananas was over rips, but commanded fair values. Bacon and hams of good quality are scarce, and commanding good values. Messrs C. E. Paget and Co. report as follows :— Taken all through, the past week's business shows a decided improvement upon previous weeks. Sales have been brisk, and supplies, with oae or two exceptions, have come m freely. Values have improved in several lines, and in others former prices have been maintained. Fruit has been in large supply, and all kinds, with the exception of apples, ha > c soid at good rates. Onions have been in brisk demand, and crices have advanced, but growers do not seem inclined to t ike advantage of the market. Potatoes > aye firmed in price, and good samples sell readily. Gram values are un^hanired. but sales are brisker. Fresh butter was in short supply, and prices show a slight advance. Corned butter was dull of sale, but producers may expe- 1 an improvement now the duty i-> removed at Sydney. Hams and bacon of prime quality have been in good demand, but inferior sorts are difficult to quit. There is a steady sale for prime cheese, but there was only a small supply oi this son to hand. Messrs Alfred Bucklaxd and Soxs' Vveeklt Report.— At the Haymarket during the past week prices of fodder have been firm, and have ranged from 2s to 2s 6d per bushel. New oats have sold at 2s Id ; r\ egrass, 5s lOd. to 6d ; cocksfoot, 4s and 4s 6d ; bonedust. £6 10s to £8 per ton. At the horse sale on Friday t?ood fresh horses sold well, and brought £8 to £14 each : ponies and inferior horses, from £1 to £4 On Tuesday hides ml skins were in full numbers, and sold freel.. Ox hides ranged from 41d to sjd; cows'. 2Jd to 3d ; calfskins, *\& per lb : sheepskins and pelts from Is to 2s 6d'each ; wool, 64d per lb ; tallow, lib to 14s per cwt. At Remuera. on Thursday, the advance on milking cow 3 noted in last Aveek's report was sustained, and store cattle were better worth. Fat cattle also rallied from the extremely low values of the past three weeks, find wero'better worth about Is 6d the 1001b. Steers ranged from 14s to 15s; cows. 11s to 13s the 1001b. Calves, in short supply, sold at high values. Jb at sheep were slightly better worth. Wethers ranged from 10s 6d to 13s ; ewes. 7s to 11s 6d. Lambs, plentiful, sold we/1. Messrs Hunter and Nolans Weekly Report.— Grain, seeds, and horse feed: There nas been an active demand for oats, and an advance in value of ke ii grown. But litttle chaff has been disposed ot, and seeds have been slow of sale. We quote: Southern feed oats, 3s to 3s 3d ; local Tartarian. 2s to 2s 6d : dun, 2s 6d ; maize. 3s 6d per bushel ; cocksfoot, from 5s to 6s per bushel ; provincial rye, 5s to 6s per bushel. Horses: But a limited number have been brought forward ; the demand has been steady, without alteration of value. Barely an average number were submitted by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday, but the competition was good at the previous week's rate 3. Wool, hides, skins, bones, and tallow Lots were fairly numerous at the Durham Yards on Tuesday, and bidding was brisk. There was an absence of really heavy ox, and medium reached 4§dper lb. 3^d being the lowest price given; cow hides, from 2id to 2Jd; calfskins, 4',d per lb ; sheepskins, 33 2d each ; pelts. Is 6d to Is 9d each; lamb skins, la 7d to 2s; "lambs' wool, bid per lb ; tallow, 163percwt; rough (at, lid per lb ; bone 3. £4 10s per ton. Cattle : The oversupply of fat beasts the previous week has caused a reaction, and but a limited number were brought forward, but there was little upward t< ndency in value. Dairy and store stocks were more plentiful, and in better request, and there was a slight iiso in the price of good cows at their profit. Below an average number were yarded at Newmarket on Tuesday, but there !
was a good muster at Papakura on Wednesday. Good daiiy cows realised highor figures, mid stores were in a little better demand. Fat catUo ■were scarce, but the trado having largo stpeks on hand, 14s por 1001b for top sorts was diillcult to elicit. Dairy cows roached £6 17s 6d ; stores without noteworthy alteration. Sheep were in moderate numbers at Newmarket on Tuesdaw ] and were steadily competed lor at the previous week's rates. Wethers sold at from 10s 6d to 14s {3d; ewes, from 6s 6d'to 12s. London, April 3. At the wool auctions to-day, a better selection was offered, and competition was very keen. Former prices were fully maintained.
