THAMES RAILWAY.
Thames, April 3. A well- attended meeting of the various local bodies was held in the Borough Chambers to-night lust consider the matter of urging upon the Government that the Thames Railway should be at once extended to Te Aroha. The Mayor (Mr Carj penter) presided, and theie were also pieoent, Messrs Fraser, M.H.R., BagnalJ, (County Chairman), Biodie, Wood, Radford, McAndrew, Renshaw, McDonell, Comer, Koefold, and McGowan. A good deal of dibcusbiou took place, in the course of which an opinion was expressed that the Hon. E. Mitchelson was favourable to the line being continued, at any rate, as iar as Paeroa, provided it could be shown that theie was a likelihood of its proving reproductive. Those pre-ent were unanimous in •stating their fit ni conviction that the line would, if earned to Te Aroha, be payable, and that the traffic would be considerable, not only in agricultural produce, coal, etc., but that branch lines would most likely soon be necessary to the several mining districts for the purpose of conveying oreb from the mines theie to the Thames, which would then probably become a great centre for reduction work--. It was resolved that the Mayor, the County Chairman, and the Town Clerk should prepaie resolutions to be submitted to the various local bodies for their approval, and that they should be asked to appoint two or three gentlemen to meet the Hon. E. Mitchelson when he visits the Thames, and go over the line with him. It was also decided to invite the co operation of the Thames Borough and County Councils?, Ohinemuri and l J iako County Councils, Te Aroha Town Board, and Waitoa Town Board in having the tail way completed to Te Aroha.
