PLASTERS' STRIKE.
The plas borers' strike in Sydney continues unsettled. Between 30 and 40 men were "called out" from the new coffee palace ab the corner of Philip and Bent Stieeos last Wednesday. The masters submitted the following 1 agreement at a conference with the men, but ii> had nob been accepted when the Te Anau left : — We, the master plasterers of Sydney, as:ree to pay competent men at the rate of 11s per day, bub reserve to oui'selves the right to discriminate as to whom we will pay at a lower rate ; and we, the masters, intend to keep ,the men still in our employ that have been in our employ through the strike."
British Aoßicu-i/rcrßAb Statistics. — The last agricultural returns show that the wheat area ot the United Kingdom was 2,668,226 1 acres in 1888, against 2,387,518 in 1887, while the total area under corn crops was 9,785,697 acres, or 50,297 acres more than last year's area. Root and other green crops together increased slightly, while clover showed a decrease (owing to a inisplant on a good deal of land), and^perman,ent pasture an insignificant decrease. In horses there was a decrease of 223, in cattle one of 371,360, and in sheep 463,134, pigs having increased by 94,686. The totals for 1888 were 1,936,702 horses (agricultural only), 10.268,600 cattle, 28,938^716 sheep and lambs, and 3,851,643 pigs.
