Previous to' commencing his sermon afc St. Patrick's Cathedral last evening the Rev. Father - Hackett referred in feeling terms to the news of the sad disaster at' Samoa, in which, he said, " many of their fellow ' Catholics had lost their lives, over and whose dead bodies th<v sad sea waves had sung their requiem. Bub ' while mourning the loss of so many,' it was, '. nevertheless, a subject of congratulation,, that a noble and brave Catholic Irishman, Captain Kane, bad braved the perils_of • the storm and brought his good ship oufc of danger.
