Mr Alexander Aitken's Market Report for the week ending March 30. — The past week hßs been a very busy one. The new market has been opened and has given the greatest satisfaction to both buyers and sellei &. Produce of all kinds has been quitted in unns»alJy large quantities. Unions have further advanced in value, and a large demand exi?t*. Grain of all kinds mores freely.andsupplyis short of requirements. Vegetables command good prices. Fresh butter has sold fairly. Porkers are scarce, and commanding high prices. Fruit of all kinds in large supply. Values unchanged for alla 1 1 except plums, which arc lower. The demand for this line does not improve, although supplies are but small— their places being taken by pears. Good dessert apples and pears have fetched fair vslaes. Grapes : Those to hand in poor condition. It is a pity that more care is not taken by steamers carrying this and other soft fruits, which are handled as though they were valueless, and regardless of the interests ot theunfortuuate grower. The attendance at the sales has been unusually large, particularly on Friday, at the new mart, the building being fairly crowded throughout the day, and a larere business was the result. >he following 1 are the week's quotations :— Fowls, poor -mti old, td. to lOd; ordinary good, Is 2ci to Is Sd ; hcavv roosters. Supplies have been large, «nd in the leading lines of produce both the values and demands have increased. »Potato»shareimprovcd in price, and a ready sale awaits good samples. Onions have risen considerably in price, and shipping requirements cannot be supplied. Growers are holding back for further rise, but this U a foolish policy. Fruit has been in fair supply, and former quotations have been quite maintained. Poultry was in fair suuply. and values remain about the same as last weeTc Hams and bacon of good quality meet a ready sale, and quite maintain former values. Cheese of prime quality is in good demand, but a quantity of inferior sorts is coming into the market. Grain of all kinds main- ' tains its former values, and a fair demand exists. Fresh butter has been in short supply, and requirements have not been filled. Corned butter is still unsaleable.
