Tiije evidence of natives gjven this morning in Hhe murder icasd' shows that l\vo days befdre the murder, 1 Haira to Peri -was'paid for grass seed cutting, one cheque being for hinuelf and one cheque to take to another native that 'night. Prisoner gambled wiLh others at Akuaku, and lost all 'his money. Next day (Tuesday) he was ' wandering about in a melancholy mood, and said it was a bad thing he had lost the money of his friend. ■ On 'Wednesday hight he left Akuaku in the direction of Mataahu, and could »ot avoid passing Mataahu in order to get to Rehorua, which was his home.
