WAIORONGOMAL (From Our Own Correspondent.) Waiorongomai, Monday.

Mr and Mrs Ferguson arrived here on Saturday evening last from Glasgow, after an absence of nearly two years, and, to judge from appearances, their lengthy tour seems to have agreed with them very well. As your readers are well aware Mr Feigusons' motive in proceeding to the Old Country was for the purpose of making arrangements for the developemcnt of that extensive mining property known as the New Era Special Claim. In this Mr Ferguson hns so f.ir succeeded, that a Glasgow syndicate has placed in his hands the sum of £G,OOO for the purpose of thoroughly prospecting the ground, and should satisfactory result* he the outcome of this expenditure, I understand that a much larger amount will be placed at his disposal for further operations. The New Era Speci d Claim comprises an area of 166 acres, and contains several well defined reefs, and with the amount of capital on hand, theie should bo no difficulty in thoroughly pioving the ground. 1 understand that it is Mr Fergusons intention to immediately call for tenders for driving several tunnels, repairing water-races, tramways, etc., ami making general preparations for the erection of new machinery, which I am informed was shipped from England in February last. An expert in connection with the above will arrive here in about two month? to undertake the superintendauce of the treatment of ores. Alamedn : The " Tangye' pnmp was fixed in position in this shaft on Thursday last, and with the exception of some trifling stoppages at first has worked satisfactorily, they are now down some 92 feet, and the country through which they are sinking consists of gravel intermixed with occasional pieces of quartz. The late Accident : I urn glad to say that Mr George Adams has so far recovered from the accident he received (as mentioned in my last), as to be able to proceed to work again this morning. Gordon Settlement Flax Mill : The following is a list of the tenders received for the erection of buildings on Mr yon Siurmer's mill site : — J. Heathcote, £74 1 5s ;A. Russell, £42 ;T. O'Connor, £69 ; G. Basham, £53 10s ; R. Booth, £54 ; James Mills (accepted), £53 15*. The tenders for carting timber were as follows : — J. Orr, 2s 4d per hundred feet ; W. Helherington (accepted), Is B^d. Football :—- 1 am pleased to state that a football club has been started here, and a scratch match is played every Saturday aftei noon. Last Saturday was to have been Married v. Single, but on account of the married men failing to put in an appearance at the appointed lime, a good scratch match was played, captained respectively by the Messrs Olarki'in, through whose indefatigable efforts the Club has been forme 1.
