CURIOUS WILL CASE. £10,000 IN DISPUTE. Dunedin, March 21.
A nviijL case, Windmill v. dallie and others, has been commenced ab the Supreme Court, and will probably last .for three weeks. The evidence, consisting mainly of statements by old identities, ranges over the period from 1849 to 1878, and there are nearly a handled witnesses. A sum of close on £10,000 is involved — one of the properties affected being Watson's Hotel. The late Mr Gallic, whose will is in dispute, was a blacksmith of a litigious disposition, and on one occasion gained notoriety through refusing to pay rates • — local authorities being compelled to distrain. He was confined in "a lunatic asylum for nearly a couple of months in 1875. His eldest daughter married Ludford, a compositor, now of Wellington, but she died through an accident. "" Ludford then married Lydia, the second daughter, but it is> alleged that (bailie was incensed thereat, not knowing she had been married, and legislation did nob legalise it for years after his death. Another daughter, who is the actual plaintiff, .married Windmill last year, bu,t recently died in childbirth. • Mrs Luxford and 'the 'representative of Mrs Windmill's children are contesting ; the will made in 1875, which leaves everything absolutely to the wife of. deceased, who is supported by the. rest, of the family. Defendants, who will begin , the case are represented by Mr F. Chapman, ' while Mr Fraser is on the" other side. Some interesting.disclosures are anticipated during the progress of the trial. ■
