Ebmkdy yon Biliousness. — One- of the host and simplest remedies for torpid liver or biliousness is a glass of hot water with LLe juice of half a lemen squeezed in ib, bub no sugar, night and morning. A person to whom this was recommended tried ib, and found hitncelf better almost; immediately. His daily headaches, which medicine had failed to cuie, left him ; bis nppotile improved, and he gained several pounds within a few weeks. This is so simple a remedy that any person thus aillicted will do well to give it a trial, as ib cannot possibly do any haim. Bens and ToJivcco. — In an experimental observation ot 38 boys of all cla-ses of society, and of average health, who had been using tobacco for periods ranging from two months to two years, 27 showed <-everc injury to the constitution and insuflicienb growth, 32 showed the existence of irregularity ot the heart's action, disordered stomachs, cough, and a craving for alcohol ; 13 had intermittency of the pulse, and one had consumption. After they had abandoned the use of tobacco, within six months' time one-half were free from all their former symptoms, and the remainder had ieco\cied by the end oi the year. — Science.
Professor yon Lauer, physician lo the late Emperor William of Germany, holds his rank of General in the Prussian Army. This year he celebrates the sixtieth anniversary of his entrance into the public service. He was appointed surgeon at the Charity Hospital, Berlin, so far back as the year 182S, but remained there little over two years, when he was made an Aimy Surgeon. He has jnst completed his eightieth year, but is so vigorous that he looks much younger, and it is said that the vcneiablo ProfePhor is held in the highest esteem by all cla&ses of the Berlinese.
