AVONDALE Y. NEWTON AND PONSON BY.

The return match between the above wag pUiyed on Saturday lasfc at the Avondalo Public Hall. After a pleasant drive out, the vi&itors arrived about 7 o'clock, and when the few preliminary anangements Mere satisfactorily settled, play commenced and all seemed tobeingrave earnest, eachexpecting to beat his opponent and that his side would be victorious. The result was a win for the combined team by two games, or 15 to 13. The Avondale players are much improved, and being all young men, who have a axcat liuingfor the game, practise regularly, and this no doubt accounts for the clo^e finish of the match. If they continue they will soon be able to hold their own with any team the town can bring against them. The two boys, Peck and Manning, again met, this time each winning two. These youthful players are a wonder to older ones, who have played the game for years, and they give promise of being very good at the game. Jf they study the book and pay regularly with strong players, they will make rapid progress and beat any average player. After the match, all eat down to an excellent supper, ptovided by the home team (if draught players generally had as free a hand ami genial hospitality as shown on this occasion, it would conduce largely to fche attractions and ad\ancement of the gamej, affcr which there were songs and recitations, and the usual thanks and cheering brought a \ cry pleasant evening to a close. The following are the scores :
