SOLUTION TO PROBLEM 57.
(By the "Herd Laddie.")
Positions. Black: 1-3, 5-7, 8-11. 13-16, 17-20. White: 10 14, 18-21, 22-24,' 26-27, 30-32. White to move and win.
J. .sends fcho following solution and notes : —
(a) 5-14 There is a nice vaiiation, feu after White's second move Black has two ways of moving. He can either bake White's man by moving 7-14, or else by moving from 5-i4. The fiist of the two I prefer, although it will not aflect the finish of the game in the least.
