FOOTBALL.
Harry Eagles lately book unto himself a wife, the nuptial knob being bied afc St. Clement's Church, Salford. - "Good old Hany*' was not forgotten by his football friends, -whose piesenfc was a case of cutlery. Says an Engli&li print:— Some people imagine that the Maoris, in touring the old country, are having a grand old time of il\ We have reason, however, to know different, for the funds are not at all strong, and the visitors will bo lucky if they come out without a loss. After quoting the report of my interview with Mr Bate re the proposed visit of a New Zealand team to England the " Canterbury Times "' says : — The report did not arise in this Island, but the first intimation Of the propo&al to send a team Home came from Wellington. The Christchuich and Dunedin paper* have all along been against the scheme. Mr C. IT. Speakman, a member of the English lootball team which played here last winter, is in Clnistchurch, where he will stay a few days before taking his departure for Australia, It will be remembered that Mi Stuart and he preferred to remain in the colony to going Homo with the other members of the team, and took up their abode in Wellington, becoming members of the celebrated Poneke Football Club. We understand that the offer of a lucrative position in Brisbane is the inducement that has caused Mr Speakman to lea\e the colony. —"Canterbury Times. "
