CROSSING CHEQUES.
Erasure of Crossing on Cheque. — Post tion of Banker.
Tf the crossing nf a cheque, crossed by the maker, is erased by a subsequent holder, it has? been hold thnt the banker on whom it is drawn is justified in paying it, though it be not presented through another banker, The eros-ing is a direction to the banker on whom the cheque is drawn to pay it through another banker, but this is so only when the cheque bears the crossing upon its face at the time the cheque is presented for payment. Under the Bills of Exchange Act a crossing is made a material part of the cheque, and therefore any holder altering it without the authority of the maker would not be able to recover on the cheque. — Mercantile and Bankiuptcy Gazette.
