OUR GOLDFIELDS
Thames, March 11. Nkw Prince Imperial. — Dunn and parly, fcributers, have crushed 5 loads of quartz for 41ozs 17d\vts gold. Trextox. — The contractors ha\e now just about sunk the shaft the allotted distance, but the bottom requires to be squared up. Anothercontractwillprobabiy be let for sinking a further depth of 22ft, which will bring it to the same level as No. 4 of the Saxon, when ib is intended to commence driving for the purpose of intersecting the reefs that are believed to traverse the ground. Saxox. — Somewhat slow headway is being made with the crosscut at No 5 level in consequence of the tightness ot the country and the lightness of the air, caused by the present sultry weather. The reef, however, should be met with any shift. Another leader has been cut in this drive. It is 6 inches in thickness, and there are several stringers crossing the face. Payable quartz continues to be broken out from the stopes. Sylvia (Tararu). — The Little Agnes reef, which -was recently intersected, is now being driven through, the water having" drained sufficiently to permit of such being done. The quartz is heavily impregnated with minerals, some of which are of a favourable description for gold, but none of the precious metal has yet been observed. This mine is held by several Auckland and Melbourne capitalists, who have expended a considerable sum of money in putting in a drive to cut this lode. Should the reef prove paj'able, ib would be the means of revolutionising mining in the Tararu portion of the goldfield. New Moanatairi. — The drive at No. 3 level of the Cambria mine, on the hangingwall leader, is passing through an excellent class of sandstone. The leader, which is from 6 to 12 inches in thickness, has not yet shown any gold, although it contains some nice mineral. Operations are proceedingas usual at No. 4 level. The main JVJoanatairi tunnel is being cleaned out with a view to getting in to the Point Russell section, and it has already been repaired for a distance of fully 670 feet, leaving about 160 feet to get in to the Point Russell crosscut, and then a further 330 feet to the Golden Age, which is the end of the tunnel. Mata G.M. Company. — Dm ing the past week lOlbs ot specimens have been obtained from the stopes.
Corcoiandel, March 11. Royal Oak. — The manager of the Royal Oak reports the roof improving as worked upon. The result of the tributer's crushing is 107ozs I2dwts retorted gold.
