—.— __ _— __ __ — _ ____ t Messrs Authub and Buddles Weekly Report.— There have been eight sales byauction this week, viz. :— Monday : Sale of furniture at Mr Otto's dining-rooms, Queen-street, and at the mart a sale of unredeemed pledges, watches, jewellery, etc., from Mr J. Kae, pawnbroker. Elliott-street. The attendance was good, and prices very satisfactory. Tuesday : At the mart, a sale of produce, fruit, etc. ; it was well attended ; a large quantity sold, The prices obtained at the three sales held for the disposal of produce, fruit, etc.,, will bo lound below. "Wednesday : At the "mart, a sale of household furniture and effects. There was a good collection, but owing to so many sales of furniture being held, the attendance was small, and prices ruled in favour of tho buyers. Thursday: At the Mart, sale of assorted earthenware, etc., also of general drapery, clothing, etc., and of fruit. The attendance at the whole was good, and prices very satisfactory. Friday : Market day sale of poultry, produce, fruit, etc., at the Mart. There was a large attendance of buyers, fairly brisk competition, and a large amount of all kinds sold at satisfactory prices. Poultry were entered in large numbers, a great quantity of chicks and young fowls, all sold at fair prices. Turkeys were not so numerous as fowls and ducks. They brought high prices, 4s 9d to 53 9d each ; fowls sold at 10d to 2s ; chicks and young fowls, 5d to Is 3d ; Wyandotte, 4s each ; Cochins, Is to Is lOd ; flamburgs, Is 4d ; Brahmas, 2s 9d ; game, Is 3d; Spanish, Is 8d; Pigeons, 6d to Is 3d ; ducks, Is to Is 7d ; geese, 2s 4d to 3s Id ; canaries, 2s to 33 6d each. Not a large number of pigs entered. These cold well, bringing 5s 9d to 11s each. Produce of all kinds is in fair demand. Potatoes have not improved in price. A quantity of inferior quality has come to hard, and other lots in very bad condition ; it was difficult to get these off at low prices. Onions of good quality have moved off treely ; an unsatisfied demand ; price firm. Cheese of good sample is m demand, but it must be really good qualit y to command attention. Butter is still quiet ; no really first-class to hand. Eggs, iresh, are in demand. Bacon and hams are wanted ; no flvst-class to hand. Fruit has come to hand in large qnantity ; there have been less soft kinds; these have brought a little better price. Many of the apples and pears were not carefully picked or packed; prices will continue low until all such are done for. Good peaches would sell well; lemons are wanted. The following are highest and lowest prices for the week, viz. :— French beans, 3sd to 4d ; peas, Is ; cucumbers, 2Jd to 3M ; cabbaees, Is to 2s 7d ; red cabbages, 13 3d per dozen ; carrots, 7d per dozen ; rhubarb. Mr Alexander Aitkejn's Market Report for the week ending March 9.— A large amount of general produce has been quitted. Supplies of all kinds have been large. Grain is selling freely, but at reduced values. Onions are easier. Potatoes of really good quality command ready sale, and values are niore settled. "Vegetables are low. Fresh butter has been in smaller supply, and met with better demand. For keg butter, there is still no demand. Cheese of good quality has moved more freely. Honey is" dull. Bacon and hams move 3lowly. la the poultry department, the supply has again been large, every pen being filled. "Values unchanged. Turkeys have boen in large supply, and have sold high. Pigs : Smaller numbers to hand. All sold at good values. Fruit : The supply has again been large, ' particularly in apples, which have been far in 1 excess of demand ; consequently prices have been very low. Pears still remain at late quotations. Plums remain at last week's values. Lemons have been in good supply and have sold high. Grapes : The supply, though large, has been far short of requirements, and better prices have been obtained. Peaches in L short supply, prices high. No Cape goose- ■ berries to hand ; several lots were wanted. A. large supply of water melons came to hand and sold freely.
