DEATH OF DR. STOCKWELL. Auckland, March 5.

:, Another well- known rcsic'ont, and also an old identity, lms just passed over to the ' great majority, in the person of Dr. IVm. 1 Stockwell, who died at hig residence) Symonds-street, yesterday evening. Dr. Stockwell had been ailing for some considerable time proviously, and three or four months prior to death he gave up his public practice, which was an extensive one. His complaint was heart disease, and he was attended by Drs. Mackellar, Philson, and lloberton, while other members of the medical profession paid tho invalid every attention. The doctor was afllicted with heart di&easc, and it proved incurable. A change for the worse took place in his condition on Saturday morning last, and from that time till the end ho sank gradually, rotaining his consciousness till the last. Dr. StocUwell came to Auckland o\er twenty years ago, and soon established a good medical practice. Prior to arrival hero he had been an army surgeon and served in tho Crimea, In Auckland he was for some time a member of tho honorary medical staff of the Auckland Hospital, and ho also actod as honorary surgeon to several benevolent institutions. The doctor also took an interest in farming, and ho had one of tho best-situated farms in the Waitakevoi di&tiict. He passed away at the early ago of 57 years. Dr. Stookwell was highly popular and respected by all who know him, and his death will be generally regretted.
