MINISTERING ANGELS. The Angel of Faith.
When shadows of doubt appal— The shadows that come to all When Hearing the strand of that unknown land, From whence there is no recal— The spirit at times will shrink, If only it is to think Of what there may be we cannot foresee Beyond the material brink. Whatsoever in human creed Can satisfy human need, The demon of doubt, within and without, Imperils the cause wo plead. With unintermittent zest, The soul in its Avild unrest Would pierce the gloom of the silent tomb, Forbidden to mortal quest. Still, when saddest thoughts arise, i There cometh in gentlest guise A presence divine to this heart of mine, To charm with a glad surprise. I know the anj?el of faith Is i.ot a mere phantom wraith ; She has the dower of wondrous power To triumph o'er pain and death. In raiment of purest white, Gemmed with celestial light— Her glorious mien has an air serene To woo with a strange delight. So woadrously sweet and fair ! My soul from its dark despair Instinctive turns, and enraptured j earns To bask in her beauty rare ! I see in her eyes divine, The light of triumph shine ; The triumph of love, in realms above, Before an eternal shrine. A. circlet of pearl and gold Round her brows I now behold, But the unique gem of her diadem Possesses a worth untold ! She holdeth within her hand An emblem in mercy planned. In the cross alone is her glory shown, The Loast of each Christian land ! The triumphs of love and song To her may alone belong ; Not a grander theme in those realms supreme Could inspire the seraph throng ! In cycles of bygone ago, The poet, seer and sage Have striven and sought in domains of thought Death's secret to presage. But all that was taught of yore, In shrines of mystical lore, The palm must yield to the truth revealed That spirits lcdeemed adore. With her angel presence near My spirit has nought to fear ; She retains my so jI in her blest control In spite of its anguish here Holensville. A. W. Hukry.
