Sir John Hall has been intei viewed by the lepreser.tative of the (< Pall Mall Gazette." He said that defensive federation was desirable. It was a fiscal dream of Austialia to support England in a war on colonial account, but it was doubtful whether support could be obtained for a European war. He lidiculed Mr I r io tide's statemen' that Parliaments and Agents-General had advocated the imposition of extia duty on foreign imports for defence purposes.
