TWO CHILDREN KILLED BY BrisbAne, February 7.
A river steamer carrying loading has arrived at East Darr station from Barcaldine, among her passengers being a family which included two children aged three years and one year respectively. The first nighb a tent was pitched tor sleeping accommodation, and during the night the father was awakened by hearing one of tho children moaniug. He lit a candle, but the elder girl, who was then apparently in a fit, died in a few minutes. She was buried the next day. The younger child, the second night, was placed in the bed previously occupied by her sister, but again the parents were awakened by the child's moaning. The father immediately struck a light and saw a large brown snake gliding oft the infant's breast. This child also died in great agony in a few minutes. Some carriers, who were aroused, came to the tescue and discovered a snako's hole under tho tent, and diggingdown quickly unearthed and killed the reptile. It had evidently beon attracted by the warmth of tho children's bodies, and they tossing in their sleep roused the'snake's anger.
