TWO CHILDREN KILLED BY A SNAKE. Brisbank, February 7.
A bivee, steamer carrying loading has arrived at East Darr station from Barcaldine, among her passengei-s being a family which included two children aged three years and one year respectively. The first night a tent was pitched for sleeping accommodacion, and during 1 the night the father was awakened by hearing one of the children moaning. He lit a candle, but the elder girl, who was then apparently in a fit, died in a few minutes. She was buried the next day. The younger child, the second night, was placed in the bed previously occupied by her sister, but again the parents were awakened by the child's moaning. The father immediately struck a light and saw a large brown snake gliding oft" the infant's breast. This child also died in great agony in a few minutes. Some carriers, who were aroused, came to the rescue and discovered a snake's hole under thetont.and diggingdown quickly unearthed and killed the reptile. It had evidently been attracted by the warmth of the children's bodies, and they tossing in their sleep roused the snake's anger.
