Very soon we shall have societies offering .(take risks against all the ills that flesh .their to. The Health insurance Corpora/ion (Limited), New Broad-street House, London — which in many respects does for professional and mercantile men what the friendly society does on a more humble scale for the working classes — is now issuing annual policies covering the risk of scarlet fever, smallpox, typhoid fever, typhus, lockjaw, hydrophobia, whooping cough, measles, and o'her illnesses to which everyone is more or less exposed. The number who suffer from these diseases is larger than many suppose. in ten years— lB76 to 1885 — as the Registrar-General's returns show, more than 130,000 persons died in England from scarlet fever aione ; while the non-fatal cases during the same peiiod are believed to have exceeded 2£ millions. *Whafc the 6orporation undertake is that for a half-guinea yearty premium they will pay in a non-fatal case £10, and in case of death within three months, £50; while for a five-guinea premium they will pay £100 in a non-fatal case and £500 in a fatal.
