Emm Pasha a Jew.
It would seem fcliafc Emm Pasha is a Jew. Tho ' Kolnisehe Zeitung ' says : — With reference to a communication in the ' Strasburg Post ' uiion Emm Pasha's religion, we have received the following reliahlo information. In tho register of births in the sj nagoguc at Oppoln (Prussia) wo find the follow ing ; — ' Birth resistor of the year 1840. No. 6, the child Isaak, son of Lebel Schnitzor, born on a Sunday, being the 24th oE tho month Adar, of tho year of tho world 5600.' In the same folio is a notice about the circumcision of tho future Afi ican tla-\ellcr. In (he register of the Jewish community of the magistrate of Oppeln, we find the following memoianda : — 'Eduaid Schnitzer, born 29th March, 1840, son of merchant Louis Schnitzer.' lie, it appoars, Germanised his own name l Lebel into 'Louis,' and -that of his son 'Isaak,' tho futuro Emm, into 'Eduard.' The grandfathei ot Isaak, Joseph Schnitzer, emigrated fronVKrzepitz, in Poland", to Oppeln, vhcro ho mairied tho daughter of one Pappenheim, sometimes also called Oppelcr, a man highly esteemed for his orthodoxy and great learning. Emm Pasha's father mairied Pauline Schweitzer, daughter of tho Jewish banker in Neisse (ii the fame province ot Silcriu where Oppeln is situated). Isaac, alias Eduaid Schnitzer, went with his parents at the age of tluce to NeiBse, where his father died in tho year 1845; and his mother man ied a second timo, this time a Christian, after she had been converted to Christianity herself. Whether Eduard Schnitzer was also converted or later adopted Islarr. is not known. Tho latter is probable, because Emm Pasha man ied a lady of tho family of tho Pasha of Janina, by whom there are several children. — 'Jewish World.'
' Tho Biitish are ahead of us in ono respect,' said an American, after a warm argument with an Anglophobiac on tho respective merits of England and America. 'Jn what, I should like to know?' demanded tho Anglqphobiac incredulously. 'Time,' replied the Yankee; 'it is seven o'clock in London when it's only two here.'
