WAIORONGOMAI. [From our own Correspondent,] Waiorongomai, Saturday. School Committee.

At the usual monthly meeting of the School Committee, Messrs Baskett, (chairman), Lovell, Wallace, Orr, and Beesiin, were present. Minnies of last meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows : — From Messrs Blades, Lnke, and Thomas, soliciting the support of the Committtee for a seat on the Board of Education, Auckland. It was resolved to support Mr Lnke. Repairs to Fence : The wirpa along the lower portion of the fence being somewhat out of order, Mr Orr was authorised to cause the same to be repaired. It was also resolved that the blocks for straining wire, be purchased from Mr D "Wallace. Monday. New Accident Relief Fund : A meeting of subscribers to the above was held in the Waioron^omai Public Hall on Saturday evening last. There were about forty persons present. Mr John j Somerville was voted to the chair, This meeting was for the purpose of receiving the report of the Committee, and also of the auditor. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. As no report appeared to be forthcoming, the Chairman asked those members of the Committee who were present, why this meeting had not been called before the end of January, as per resolution carried at the previous meeting. Mr Taylor rose and explained that they had only got possession of the books that day. He believed the Secretary had made application to Mr Crump some time ago for the books but was told that Mr Adams had them, and on interviewing Mr Adams about the matter he was referred back to Mr Crump, and it was only to-day that they were able to ascertain who the Committee were, and m accordance with a promise which Mr Adams hail made, a document was prepared and signed by the Committee authorising Mr Crump <o receive the money, and Mr Crump had received a cheque and paid it into the bank, and as the Committee had get possession of the money he thought they had done their duty well. Applause. The Chairman said, in reference to auditing the books, he had been hard nt it fqr the previous hour and a half, and in the rnajn they appeared to he correct, but there were some explanations necessary, as the amount of money in the last two column.3 on each page was deducted from the tptal, leading a discrepancy of some four pounds odd, but he had no doubt the matter would be fully explained on being referred \q Mr Crump. As the old Committee were now defunct, Mr Jeffery proposed that a new Committee be appointed, The motion was seconded by Mr Coghlan and carried. Proposed by Mr Ellery, seconded by Mr Scott, and carried, tjiat ft Qomrnittee of five be elected, three to, fqrrn a quorum. The following names were t}ien proposed 5 Messrs Jennings, Jeffries, J. Samson, tjenr., Taylor, T, Qold 8 worthy, T. Gavin, and J. Goldsworthy. Proposed by Mr Ellerjr, seconded by Mr D. Samson, that the first five of those proposed be elected. An amendment was proposed by Mr Mcliiver, and seconded by Mr Samson, that the old Committee be re-elected. On being put by the Chairman seven votes weie recorded in favour of the amendment ; against, nineteen. For the resolution twenty-one voted, and against, only one. The Chairman deolared the lesolution carried. Mr T. Goldsworthy asked to have the tjuties of the new conjmittee defined, Mr O'lCeeffe replied the Committee jyould take charge of all monies, and ssijlmijt rules and yoguja{;ions to be, «r>-

proved of at a future meeting 1 . ; 'm.. ■ Mr Taylor gave notice that he would move at the next meeting that the resolution carried at a previous meetirg, that the money be divided pro raia amongst the members be rescinded. Proposed by Mi O'Keeffe, seconded by Mr McLiver, and carried, . that the Society be continued. Proposed by Mr Basham, seconded by Mr Cookson, that the Committee draw up a report, also rules and regulations, and submit the same for approval at a meeting to be held that night fortnight. Carried. . . Mr O'Eeeffe. ( Baid the meeting must, clearly understand' that the Committee would be annually "elected. " The Chairman explained that the rules and regulations would provide for that. A vole of thanks to the chair brought the meeting to a close. The meeting, although on the whole fairly oiderly, on two or three occasions became rath or lively. Te'Aroha'S. and G. M. 'Co.— The Battery is now crushing quartz with ten head of stampers, the late rains having provided a good supply af water. General News : A new store has been opened here. ' , A subscription was made on Saturday amongst the employees of the Te A. S. and Gold Co., for the purpose ofenabling Mr Darby to pay for the erection of his new house, and I am glad to say was liberally responded to. Whaleboat Race : Much disappointment was expressed here when it became kno\?n that the Waitemata~Tham.es whaleboat race would not come off. Many of our local residents are old Thamesites, and not a faw are old hands at the sport, consequently a keen interest was token in the affair.
