SALE OF WAITEK AURI MINE AND BATTERY.

The Waitekauri mino and batteiy, in the Upper Thames district, has jusb been sold by Mr J. H. Witheford to a Sydney proprietary. The sale of a property like the \Vnitekauri to foreign capitalists has more importance attached to it than the disposal of an untried piece of ground. The" fact that thousands of ounces of gold have been taken from a comparatively small surface section of the Waitekauri reef demonstrates the rich character of the lode, proving the geological formation to be favourable for the deposit of the precious metal, and holds out the best hopes for expecting a still heavier output when the mine is worked on a proper system, and the reduction of the quartz carried out by means of modern appliances instead of the ancient stampers and berdans which have too long reigned supreme on our goldfields, but which are being supplanted at Te Aroha by what is alleged to be the best known process of the age. We want besides, new appliances, new mon % and money to mine legitimately for gold. Mr Witheford is certainly succeeding in his efforts to introduce both, at it is satisfactory to leain that purchasers have expressed their entire satisfaction with the mining properties bought through his office,
