The first day's racing- of the Takapuna Jockey Club Summer Meeting on Saturday passed off without a hitch of any kindThe racing was of an interesting de- I sciiption throughout, and in mostly j every instance the favourites were defeated. Among those present were the Hon. E. Mitchelson and His Worship the Mayor (Mr A. E. Devote). The duties of judge were performed by Mr W. H. Fenton, Mr F. Marks acted as clerk of the scales, and Mr T. Stephens wielded the starter's flag, while Mr Wynyard carried out his secretarial duties with satisfaction to all. The totalisators were under the supervision of Mr W. Adams, and there were no complaints of any kind during the day. An excellent lunch was provided in the stewards' room by Mr W. Willey, of the Victoria Bakery.
