ELEVEN MILES THROUGH THE AIR.
" That turned out a much bigger show than I'd laid it out to be. I'll tell you how. I started from a certain point, and went up" with my balloon at an angle that took me three miles away from the starting-place before I let go. Then I began to descend ; but the buoyancy of the parachute, when once it had opened out, was so great that I travelled eleven miles further before I alighted on the earth. That was a pretty considerable journey, wasn't it, with no sailing gear but a parachute ? I clomb up into the machine, out of sight, so that when the parachute came into view I guess the people who were watching it allowed I'd gone off in some other direction on my own hook." " You did get to terra firmcc all right, though ?" ' I did, and without feeling the least bit the worse for it. In fact, I have not, so far, had the smallest accident that in any way hurt or injured me."
